There seems to be an infinite number of Realtors in the United States. Real estate is a very competitive industry in which longevity seems to be one of the key elements of success.
New agents entering the world of residential real estate work hard to get their names out to the public and establish a career. More often than not, they work for free until they sell a home which, in today’s economy, can take a year or more to accomplish.
Promoting yourself as a real estate agent, traditionally, has been in the forms advertising listings in the newspapers, sending out direct mail postcards to anyone you ever encountered, working as much floor time as possible, and, of course, farming a part of town or neighborhood where you live.
While these are still popular ways to get your name out to potential buyers and sellers, there are new ways to make yourself stand out in the public eye of which many are relatively inexpensive and easy to do.
New Ways Yo Market Yourself As A Real Estate Agent
In order to market yourself as an agent, you have to put yourself and your picture everywhere you possibly can without “selling the farm” to pay for it! The Internet is a great tool for agents to use as the base of most their marketing plans.
There are so many sites that can give you exposure to the general public as a real estate agent. Social media is a huge avenue to promote yourself, your listings, and your open houses. Facebook and Twitter allow you to put yourself out in the wide world of the web by simply updating statuses with the items mentioned above and so much more.
Additionally, there are online software programs to create client databases like Constant Contact and iContact. These programs allow you to create and maintain email addresses lists of current, potential and past clients as well as family members and friends for a very low monthly fee. With programs like these, it is easy to keep send mass emails, newsletters, and other promotional efforts for your business.
Got Blog? You Should…
Blogs are another great way to express your knowledge of the real estate market and current news in addition to providing easy to understand explanations of different aspects of buying and selling real estate. Another great way to use blogs is to feature qualities of living in a community or neighborhood.
With so many nuances associated with the process and constant changes in the market, blogging gives potential buyers and sellers the ability to read your blog and feel a personal connection to you.
More traditional methods of advertising that are always popular are placing ads in the newspaper to feature listings, open houses, and promote you as an agent. This method gets very costly unless you place small classified ads and is becoming a secondary method because of the internet.
Open houses are always great ways to add to your “potential client” database – particularly to attract buyers. While open houses occasionally help sell a home, they are much more advantageous for you to add to your list of prospects by gaining new clients who are seeking a new home. My first handful of buyers came from open houses in homes listed with my broker.
The real estate industry can be a very profitable industry. Deciding to get into this business is the easy part. Staying in it requires an infinite amount of work, persistence and, most importantly, patience. In these economic times, it may take more time for your career to take off. But with persistence, you will succeed. Once more buyers and sellers finally get back in the arena, you will be established in an area and certainly be on the fast track to success!
